Review of College Magazine Questionnaire
The first question within this questionnaire indicates the demographics present. As more males were questioned, the results are more biased towards the attitudes of the male demographic. A representative sample would have been a better ratio of male:female:other, giving less demographic bias to the results of the questionnaire. This is especially pertinent as College magazines are not targeted to a particular gender.
As the majority of people questioned said they do not currently read a College magazine, it can be assumed that either:
a) there is no want from the target demographic (students) for a College magazine
b) there is no current College magazine, therefore leaving a gap in the market
From personal knowledge, there is no College magazine in the area, meaning the latter is correct. This is valuable knowledge that has been attained, as it shows that the College magazine is a potentially profitable venture. As there is no competition, less money will need to be put into advertising.
The majority of people questioned are first years, meaning the data collected is more pertinent to that demographic. As such, it would make more sense to target the magazine to the firs-t-year demographic (given that we have more information on what they want).
Twenty out of thirty-one people (64.5%) would prefer a cover image consisting of artwork rather than one of students, so artwork will be used. The colours pink, gold and yellow will not be used as they have been identified as the least liked colours. As discounts/freebies and job pages were identified as the preferred features for a College magazine, these features will be included in the magazine and advertised on the cover. Most people prefer the themes of music and games; music and games will be themes included on the front cover.
The College magazine will be sold for one pound and will contain a medium amount of contact - this was the most chosen choice for price:content. It will be released monthly, as the questionnaire suggests it should be the release schedule. Finally, there will not be an online edition, as this would cost money to maintain and there is not enough interest in it.
If a subsequent questionnaire is done, the topic of whether the consumer would be willing to buy a magazine of this genre should be explored. in addition, separate questionnaires should be given to each person who answers the survey to allow a more accurate database of demographics to be obtained.
